The government has taken steps to raise the standards of six universities in Sri Lanka up to the international level,said University Grants Commission Chairman Prof. Gamini Samaranayake delivering a speech at the Central Bank Training Institute, Rajagiriya on Friday.
He said the selected universities are Peradeniya, Colombo, Moratuwa, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kelaniya and Ruhuna.
A survey in the Webometrics Global ranking in October in 2010 showed that the Colombo University was ranked 2,185, the Moratuwa University 2,198 and the Peradeniya University 3,005.
