The Education Ministry has taken measures to encourage more students to sit for science subjects at the G C E (A/L) examinations, said Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena. Currently only 22 percent students follow science subjects and 25 percent follow commerce subjects. A large percentage of students follow arts subjects which is 53 percent, he added.
The minister was addressing a press briefing at the Information Department yesterday.
According to the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision there is a plan for a knowledge base development in Sri Lanka. According to that measures are taken by the Education Ministry to increase the percentage of students following science subjects to 45 percent in 2015.
