Teacher trade unions have warned of continuous union action if the Education Ministry fails to rectify the salary anomalies of the teachers.
The unions have warned that the series of trade union action would have an adverse impact on the country’s education sector.
The All Lanka United Teachers Union (ALUTU), Association of Education Professionals (AEP) and the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) have jointly issued an ultimatum to the Education Ministry Secretary to grant an effective solution to their salary issues on July 19 when they are to hold a meeting on the matter.
The unions have claimed that the salary anomaly issues of teachers have remained unresolved for the past 15 years and that none of the governments have been able to provide an effective solution to the issue.
The unions have called on the Education Ministry to implement the interim salary proposal that was approved by former Education Minister Susil Premajayantha as a solution to the teachers’ salary anomaly issue in 2008.
