The Court of Appeal yesterday extended, till July 27, 2011, the order imposed earlier on the Departmental Heads of the Ruhuna, Wayamba and Sri Jayewardenepura Campuses, restraining them from handing in letters of resignation and keeping away from their official functions.
The same stay order, which is extended till July 27, 2011 restricts the Vice Chancellor, Chancellors and the University Grants Commission from accepting the letters of resignation.
A group of students from the respective campuses, had fled a Writ Application in the Court of Appeal, complaining that their University Education was being disrupted due to the trade union action of their lecturers. Hence, the teachers should be prohibited from resorting to such unreasonable action, they said.
The respondents were given time to file objection, if any.
The Bench comprised Justices Sriskandarajah (President) and Upali Abeyratne.
