The new entrants to the Univeristy of Peradeniya are currently being registered at their respective faculties. It has been brought to light that the registered students will then be sent by the Ministry of Higher Education to follow a Pre-orientation Program that does not fall under the purview of the Universities. The contents of this programme have not been approved by any of the faculty boards or the Senate of the University.
All eight faculty boards of the University of Peradeniya have adopted strong resolutions condemning this clear violation of the University act. They further state that activities of this nature would seriously disturb the autonomy of the academic programme offered by the Universities.
