Four students of the Jayewardenepura University were arrested by the Mirihana police yesterday on charges of conspiring against the state, the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) told Daily Mirror online.
IUSF Convener Sanjeewa Bandara said the arrested undergraduates were produced in Courts today. “One was released on bail while three others are being held in the Mirihana Police under detention orders for the next 48 hours for further interrogation,” he added.
When contacted by Daily Mirror Online, Nugegoda Division SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon said the four undergraduates were handed over to the Mirihana Police yesterday by Vice Chancellor Dr. N.L.A. Karunaratne over incidents related to ragging and causing disturbance to university activities.
