University lecturers have informed the Examinations Commissioner that the academics would not participate in the marking of GCE Advanced Level examination papers this year.
The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) has officially informed the Examinations Commissioner of the decision saying the university lecturers had not yet received a favorable response from the government to their demand for a salary hike.
FUTA Head, Dr. Nirmal Devasiri has told the media that the university lecturers have not received a favorable response although discussions were still ongoing with the authorities.
According to FUTA, the lecturers would continue with their union action until they are granted the promises salary increment by the government.
