Three leading teacher trade unions yesterday threatened stern trade union action if the authorities fail to solve the problems faced by the teaching fraternity before August 05.
The Education Professionals Association, Samastha Lanka Eksath Guru Sangamaya and Lanka Guru Sangamaya have adopted the tough stand.
Among the demands made by the teacher unions were, to implement the interim salary proposals made by the Education Ministry, rectify the salary anomalies of the trained teachers and the graduate teachers in accordance with the 2008/45 circular, resume talks on the proposed constitutions for principals and teaching professions which have been submitted to the Cabinet without discussing with the unions.
The unions have already held discussions with the Education Ministry Secretary H. M. Gunasekera and he has agreed to have another round of talks with the unions before August 05.
Gunasekera had said that he will present a set of proposals as solutions to the teachers woes on this date.
