A student from the Sri Jayewardenepura University has been arrested by police for allegedly trying to murder the Vice Chancellor of the university and is remanded till June 16.
The student was arrested following a complaint received by the Mirihana Police and was remanded till the 16th after presenting him before the Gangodawila Magistrate.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Sri Jayawardenepura University’s Students’ Council, Ven. Kumburupitiye Gnanissara Thero has said the student has been arrested on false charges leveled by the Vice Chancellor.
Ven. Gnanissara Thero in statement has stated that the respective Vice Chancellor had made similar complaints to the police on previous occasions resulting in the arrest of several university students.
According to the Thero, final year student of the Social Science and Humanities Faculty, Lalith Prasanna was taken into custody when he had visited the Mirihana Police to make a statement.
