Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) today said that the Examinations Commissioner will be officially informed this week on the academics’ withdrawal from 2011 G.C.E. A/L evaluation process.
FUTA President Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri speaking to Daily Mirror Online said that a definitive decision on withdrawing from A/L evaluation process this year was taken at the executive meeting held last Friday.
“In spite of several discussion rounds with government officials including the President himself, we have not received a satisfying solution to our demands of a substantial pay hike. Therefore we decided to strengthen our union actions by withdrawing from A/L answer script evaluations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Examinations Commissioner Anura Edirisinghe commenting on any possible impacts on the evaluation process due to the withdrawal of academics said that has nothing more to say than to hope that the academics would revise their decision to abstain from 2011 A/L paper marking. “We hope that their issues will be solved by September and that the academics would revise their decisions and participate in the evaluation process,” he added.
