Academics may quit local system
Disappointed by the unkept promises of the government, a large number of academics are now contemplating on leaving the local higher education system, the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) said.FUTA Spokesman Dr. Mahim Mendis speaking to Daily Mirror said that as a result of the government’s failure to grant a substantial pay hike for the academics, a large number of academics have now decided to leave the higher education system and go for more lucrative opportunities.
A discussion was held between the President and FUTA members on May 25 but ended in a stalemate. Meanwhile, another discussion is scheduled between the President and FUTA members tomorrow evening to discuss on the issues academics are currently facing. (Lakna Paranamanna)
