Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) said that some of the academics who resigned from the voluntary administrative positions are being intimidated by Vice Chancellors to reaccept their positions. FUTA President Dr. Ranjith Nirmal Dewasiri told Daily Mirror Online that they have been informed of several cases where the resigned university teachers have been forced by VCs to reaccept their positions and resume their duties until the councils accept the resignation letters.
“We sought legal advice concerning the situation and we have come to understand that there is no legal basis to these requests and intimidations of the VCs. Therefore we have categorically refused to accept the resigned positions,” Dr. Dewasiri added. Meanwhile, FUTA is expecting to discuss the prevalent situation of academics with the President the coming week. (Lakna Paranamanna)
