Leadership training for university entrants

All undergraduates who are to be admitted to Sri Lankan universities this year will have to undergo a compulsory leadership training course for three weeks according to a concept of Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake.

About 21,000 students will be admitted to universities this year and the proposed leadership training programme would commence on May 23, 2011 at 20 military training camps in the island.
Secretary to Higher Education Ministry Sunil Jayantha has already informed top officials of the universities of this move.

The inaugural ceremony for this programme will be held at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The objective of this programme is to inculcate good and useful attitudes in students prior to entering universities.

Physical training, personality development and inculcating good attitudes among university students are the training areas.

These students will get laptop computers too from their universities from this year onwards, said Education Deputy Director W M Balasooriya speaking at a meeting of school principals of the Kurunegala District recently.
